Norwegian Cruise Lines finishes 2 more ships
June 24, 2008
NCL has chosen Bristol Finish to refinish the brightwork on two more ships, the m/v Jade and m/v Pearl. This brings their count up to 5 ships so far that have been refit with Bristol Finish over the past 2 years.
These ships have teak handrails very similar in size to Grand Banks and Fleming yachts, just a bit longer.
Each ship has the same amount of handrail as 47 individual Grand Banks 42's!
The total amount of handrail now finished on these five ships is equal to about 5 miles long!
Norwegian Cruise Lines updates another ship
May 1, 2008
Once again, NCL has selected Bristol Finish to refurbish the brightwork on one more of their ships, the m/v Gem. This brings their count up to 3 ships so far that have been refit with Bristol Finish over the past 2 years.
Each of these ships has approximately 4,000 to 5,000 linear feet of teak handrails, which receive a lot of wear and tear.
Bristol Finish was chosen for the extreme durability and UV resistance that it provides., as well as the low maintenance.

Bristol Finish - High Performance Marine Coating
PASSAGEMAKER magazine May/June 2005
-Steve C. D'Antonio
It's a problem as old as boatbuilding itself- coating the wood so it doesn't rot or decay.
Coatings used for this purpose have been around for some time. Ancient Egyptians, Carthaginians, and Phoenicians used a translucent yellowish material to coat their sarcophagi, giving their kings and queens smart looking vehicles for transport into the afterlife.
Today, the challenge of manufacturing and applying coatings that enhance and preserve the appearance of naturally beautiful wood continues, albeit with a different end in mind.
Bristol Finish, manufacturer of an extremely durable, long-lasting marine coating available in both traditional amber and clear, has responded to the plea of many boaters to make a varnish that is easy to apply, requires no sanding, and lasts a long time.
The two part acrylic urethane coating has considerably more abrasion and UV resistance than conventional single part varnishes. It's also tough enough to resist gasoline, diesel fuel, battery acid, and most cleansers. It also remains flexible, so it will move with the natural expansion and contraction of a boat's wood, resisting cracking and peeling.
I've used this coating in the boatyard, and it works well. I'm particularly fond of applying it to areas that receive the highest abuse, such as bright transoms, soles, and toerails. Its amber finish enhances rather than hides the attractive grain of your brightwork. And it has staying power- it's designed to last for up to 4 years in northern latitudes (New England and the Pacific Northwest), and 1 to 2 years in the tropics.
Builders and maintainers of fine yachts know what works, and many choose Bristol Finish for these reasons.
Tough, Yet Easy
POWER CRUISING magazine Jan/Feb 2005
-Shipshape section
Bristol Finish is one of the most highly rated exterior wood coatings on the market. This tough acrylic urethane provides more than 10 times the UV resistance and up to 100 times the abrasion resistance of conventional varnishes and other single part coatings. Sanding is not required between coats, and each coat may be applied at about one- hour intervals, allowing refinishing projects to be finished in a single day or weekend.
In addition to providing ease of application, the product creates a luminous finish without heavy pigments that hide wood detail. It is available in Traditional Amber, which matches the look and transparency of traditional marine spar varnish, and Classic Clear for interior use. Both are offered in either a high- gloss or satin finish.
Bristol Finish is available at boatyards and marine chandleries. To learn more call 1-800-582-7508 or visit www.bristolfinish.com.
